To increase area under green cover

Hosur: The district administration has initiated steps to make Krishnagiri an eco-friendly district, Collector Santhosh Babu has said.

He requested voluntary organizations such as Isha Foundation to extend their cooperation to the district administration in achieving this task.

Inaugurating the Project Green Hands of Isha Foundation here on Saturday, the Collector said that the foundation planned to plant 2.5 crore saplings in the State in the current year.

Of them, about five lakh saplings would be planted in Hosur and surrounding villages, to increase the green cover.

Mr. Babu said that the district administration would spend Rs.2 lakh for implementation of the programme in Krishnagiri district.

It had initiated special development programmes to track the status of out-of-school children and enhance the literacy rate of women. The Collector asked the people to clear plastic waste from water bodies and keep the town clean.

Radhika, Isha Foundation and several district officials were present.
