Sammelan emblem released

Chitradurga: The District Committee of Kannada Sahitya Parishat released the emblem for the 75th Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held in here from January 29 next year.

Addressing pressperson after releasing the emblem, parishat district president K. M. Veeresh said that the preparation for the grand event were on full swing as the parishat was finalising plans for grand function.

He said that the state committee on Thursday would visit Mysore to formally invite litterateur L. Basavaraju who will be the president of the sammelan.

“ I hope and believe that the people of the district are with the committee and would cooperative in a best possible manner for the success of this grand event which is matter of pride for people of the district here”, he said.

Deputy Commissioner and sammelan’s treasurer Amlan Aditya Biswas said that a total of Rs. 3.83 crore was required for the sammelan.

He said that for the civil works, the district administration has made a separate budget of Rs. 4.44 crore, for which the State Finance Commission (SFC) has released Rs. 1 crore and promised to release another Rs. 1 crore soon.

With regard to the preparations, he said that a huge pandal would be erected and stage would be set up at Vonake Vobbavva Stadium.

All the major roads leading to the venue are being developed, for which the SFC funds were being used.

About 3.15 lakh people are expected to attend, he said. Accommodation will be provided for nearly 8,000 people in tents, schools, colleges, hostels, kalyan mantaps and hotels.

The district police was spending about Rs. 9 lakh for purchasing high-technology security instruments, including close-circuit cameras to step up security during the sammelan.

Social Welfare Minster and working president of the sammelan D. Sudhakar said that the Government has asked all the Government employees of the district to pay one day’s salary for the event.
