Official expresses dissatisfaction over slackness in work on B.H. Road

SHIMOGA: District Nodal Officer M. Lakshminarayan said on Tuesday that the State Government had sanctioned Rs. 10 crore for shifting the district jail to the outskirts of the city.

He was speaking at a meeting to review the progress achieved in the implementation of various development schemes at the conference hall of the zilla panchayat here.

He said that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had issued a directive to shift the district jail in the heart of the city to outskirts.

He asked the officials concerned to identify sites for the construction of a swimming pool, training centre for the Anti-Naxal Force and a Youth Hostel.

He also asked them to identify additional land required for the airport to be developed at Sogane, about 8 km from here.

Expressing dissatisfaction over slackness in the progress of work on B.H. Road, he said though the work was taken up six months ago, it had not been completed. This showed lack of seriousness among those responsible for its implementation.

He took the officials to task for not completing the work on time.


He noted that a compensation of Rs. 6 crore had been paid to those affected by widening of B.H. Road. He, however, said that if compensation was not paid to some persons, it was because of some technical reasons.

Mr. Lakshminarayan expressed his anguish at the KHB authorities for not completing the work on the Mini Vidhana Soudha here.

He said the deadline for this work would not be extended and action would be taken against the officials if did not complete it on time.

The authorities of the Government College of Veterinary Sciences here said that 45 students had been admitted to various courses this year. There was a proposal to construct a veterinary clinic on the college premises.

Mr. Lakshminarayan directed the MESCOM authorities to energise the pending irrigation pumpsets within a month.

Superintending Engineer of the Public Works Department Kantharaj said that civil work on the Indoor Stadium in the city would be completed within three months.

Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat Hemachandra and Nirvanappa, Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, were present.
