Bangalore: Members in the Legislative Assembly paid rich tributes to S.R. Bommai, former Chief Minister, who passed away recently.

Recalling the contribution of Bommai and Anusuya Gajanana Sharma, Kulkarni Mallappa Karaveerappa, A.S.Guruswami, B.Venkatarayappa, K.Singari Gowda and T.V.Krishnappa, who were members of the House, the members observed a one-minute silence as a mark of respect to them.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said Bommai was responsible for the historic judgment of the Supreme Court. Bommai, the Chief Minister said, approached the court with a view to stopping the Centre from dismissing State governments by misusing Article 356.

M. Mallikarjun Kharge (Congress) said the verdict helped in settling the issue of proving the majority of a State government on the floor of the House. He said that Bommai had no prejudice against the Opposition. When Bommai was Revenue Minister, he accepted his suggestion to constitute a House committee to go into drought relief measures.
