Restauranteur’s wife falls to death Crime notes

BANGALORE: A rooftop barbecue turned tragic for the wife of a well-known restauranteur when the fibreglass sheet gave away and she plunged to her death in the early hours of Saturday.

Eugenia (37), wife of Carlton Braganza who runs the Opus restaurant on Palace Cross Road, died when she fell down from the roof of her four-storeyed apartment building near Ulsoor lake around 1.30 a.m.

According to sources close the family, Ms. Braganza was hosting a rooftop dinner for her friends and her restaurant staff at Dhiraj Manor Apartments on Friday night. She was walking around with a group of friends on the fibreglass sheet on the roof when it caved in, plummeting her four floors below.

She was rushed to HOSMAT Hospital, where she was declared dead.

The Ulsoor police registered a case of accidental death.


A 20-year-old student from Christ College was found hanging from the ceiling in her house at Balaji Nagar in MICO Layout police station limits on Friday. The police identified her as Ithri (20), a second year BA student.


A 70-year-old pedestrian was killed when he was hit by a car near Venkatala junction on Bellary Road on Saturday, the Yelahanka traffic police said.

Chain snatched

Two motorcycle-borne men snatched a gold chain, worth Rs.70,000, of Nandini near Makkala Koota in Chamarajpet on Friday. The Chamarajpet police said Nandini was on her way home when the chain was snatched.
