SHIMOGA: The Shimoga City Municipal Council (CMC) at its special meeting on Saturday passed a unanimous resolution urging the State Government to upgrade it into a municipal corporation. President of the council M. Shankar presided over the meeting. The resolution was passed under the condition that councillors irrespective of their party affiliation be continued in the new body till their term as members of the council ended.

Mr. Shankar told the councillors that the resolution should be passed to ensure all-round development of the city in a better manner.

The government’s plan to upgrade the Shimoga CMC into a municipal corporation was disclosed here recently by the Minister for Urban Development.
