Replace Raichur district in-charge Minister: MP

Staff Correspondent

Raichur: Raichur MP S. Fakkirappa has asked Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to replace District in-charge Minister C.M. Udasi as “he has not been able to respond to the problems of flood-hit people in the district”.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, he said that Mr. Udasi, who is Minister for Public Works, had shown no interest in reviewing development works implemented by the Government in Raichur district. He had also failed to visit the district to understand the problems faced by the flood-hit people.

The MP said the district administration was not serious in implementation rehabilitation works in the affected villages. The displaced families had been left to fend for themselves in temporary rehabilitation centres without regular supply of foodgrains and drinking water. Even the process of relocating affected villages was slow. In the absence of regular reviews of the situation, the problems and difficulties had worsened.

Also, no action had been taken to restore the damaged bridge across the Tungabhadra.

Earlier, at a review meeting here, the MP expressed unhappiness over the failure of the zilla panchayat officials to provide the necessary information on the funds released by the Centre for implementing various drinking water supply schemes in the district. He found that the officials had failed to utilise the funds released to them. This had affected progress in scheme implementation as well as in the improvement of rural roads. He directed the officials to make proper use of the funds and regularly review the progress of various projects.
