GULBARGA: The Gulbarga district unit of the Janata Dal (S) on Tuesday criticised the district administration and Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company authorities for their alleged failure to provide immediate relief to the residents of Hodal village in Aland taluk who lost their electrical appliances worth over Rs. 20 lakh due to short circuit in electricity supply a couple of days ago.

The JD(S) workers, who came in a procession to the Deputy Commissioner’s office along with residents of the village under the leadership of the District Public Relation Committee Cell chairman Deve Gowda Tellur, have, in a memorandum to the district administration, said that the short circuit in power supply besides damaging electrical appliances had resulted in fire accidents in which one house, two shops and several cattle shelters were reduced to ashes.

Mr. Tellur said that four head of cattle have perished in the fire accidents due to the short circuit. He demanded that the district administration pay immediate compensation to the villagers who lost their property and cattle.

The district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has also criticised the district officials for not visiting the village after the incident and announcing compensation.
