Ready for debate on budgets: Yeddyurappa

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said here on Thursday that he was ready for a debate on the “merits” and “demerits” of the budgets presented by him. “ I am prepared to accept my mistakes if they are pointed out in an objective way.”

Inaugurating the concluding function of the 55th All-India Cooperative Week at the Nehru stadium, he, however, asked detractors of his budgets not to make criticism for the sake of criticism.

He said that he prepared the budgets taking a comprehensive view of the hopes and aspirations of the villagers, backward classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and other neglected sections such as weavers. He claimed that programmes launched by him, such as farm loans through cooperatives at three per cent interest, supply of free electricity to irrigation pump sets and waiver of loans, had been introduced for the first time in the country. “But reasonable time should be given for these programmes to show results.”

Referring to the power problem, the Chief Minister said the Government was doing its best to tide over the situation.
