Re-think on award of airport project works

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The multi-crore scam in Satyam Computers had its impact in Karnataka on Wednesday with Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa indicating that the Government will set in motion the re-tendering process for the Shimoga and Gulbarga greenfield airport projects by delinking itself from the consortium led by Maytas Infra.

Maytas Infra, an entity promoted by the Ramalinga Raju family, had won the bids for Shimoga and Gulbarga airports in consortium with Nagarjuna Construction Company-owned NCC and Vienna International Airport’s arm, VIE India Project Development & Holding.

However, on Wednesday he took exception to the delay in implementation of the airport project by this consortium and told presspersons that: “I have asked the Chief Secretary to work towards re-tendering the Shimoga and Gulbarga airport projects in the wake of the delay in implementation.”
