Ramesh Jigajinagi wins Bijapur seat

Bijapur: Ramesh Jigajinagi of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won the Bijapur Lok Sabha seat by defeating Prakash Rathod of Congress by a margin of 42,404 votes.

Of the total 6,49,671 polled votes, Ramesh Jigajinagi secured 3,08,939 and Prakash Rathod secured 2,66,535 votes. Vilasbabu Almelkar (JDS) polled 33,177 votes. Independent candidates Narsappa T. Bandiwaddar got 6,689 votes, Chandrakant R. Lamani (3,270), Nirmala Arakeri (3,573), Ramanna Chalawadi (3,760), Somshekhar Sewalal (4,633), Sudhakar Kanmadi (6,034)and Ambanna Tukaram Harijan got 13,021 votes. Of the72 postal votes, Jigajinagi got 18, Rathod - 13 and Sudhakar Kanmadi (Independent) got one vote.
