RSS to build 5,000 houses in flood-affected areas

SHIMOGA: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is to construct 5,000 houses for the flood-affected people in north Karnataka at a cost of Rs. 50 crore.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, executive in-charge of the Shimoga unit of the RSS Pattabhiram said that each house would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1 lakh. The organisation aimed to finish the project by Ugadi next year, he said.

Mr. Pattabhiram said that as many as 670 RSS volunteers had been engaged in flood relief work in 16 rehabilitation centres in these districts. They had distributed food grain, blankets, medicines and other assistance to benefit almost 10,000 people in Belgaum, Bagalkot, Gadag and Raichur districts in north Karnataka, he said.

He said that those interested in contributing towards flood relief could do so at the following centres: Madhu Kripa, Panchavati Colony; SGR Book Binders, Kote Road; Rajaram Book House, Gandhi Bazaar; B.S. Tailors, Jail Road; Royal Printers, K.R. Puram; Vikasa Vidyalaya, Vinoba Nagar; Sadhana Trading Company, Nehru Road and Vasavadatta Cement Traders, Tippa Jois Colony, Tilak Nagar.
