BELLARY: Hindu activists, who were present in large numbers, performed "Rudrabhisheka" at the Eeranna temple, which is adjacent to the Vannur Vali Dargh on the banks of the Tungabhadra. The puja is being conducted for the first time while the Vannur Vali Urs is going on.

The puja to the Eeranna, which is a stone fixed to the wall, passed off peacefully without any untoward incident. The place had become controversial after the Hindu organisations and activists opposed the holding of the Vannur Vali Urs. Last year, the law enforcing agencies thwarted an attempt of Hindu activists to perform puja while the urs was being held.

People of all communities take part in the urs, local people said. Although the urs was being held for the past several years, local people said some Hindu organisationsopposed it last year.
