Provide security to churches, says DSS

BANGALORE: Expressing concern over the call given by the Sangh Parivar to observe Orissa bandh on Christmas day, the Dalit Sangharsha Samithi has expressed fear that such a call might have an impact in Karnataka.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, DSS State president N. Murthy demanded that the State Government provide adequate security to churches on December 24 and 25.

He urged the government to arrest all those involved in the recent church attacks in the State.

Terming the episode of church attacks as an agenda of “communal terrorism”, he urged the government to curb such a menace.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa should discuss the steps to check communal terrorism at the meeting of Chief Ministers to be held in Delhi on January 5, he said.

He said the DSS would take out a jatha of its activists and supporters from the Mahatma Gandhi statue to the Raj Bhavan on December 22 to submit a memorandum to Governor Rameshwar Thakur about the need to provide security to churches during the Christmas celebrations.
