Probe sought into woman’s death

Belgaum: Several women took out a procession here on Monday seeking justice to the parents of Bharati who was found dead in her husband Sushil Mankar’s house at Kakti near here on November 12.

The procession was taken out under the banner of “Karmvas”, a unit of Karnataka Rajya Mahila Mattu Vivaah Abhivrudhi Samasthe, demanding that action be taken against Bharati’s husband and in-laws.

‘Harassment’

The women alleged that Bharati (30) was a victim of dowry harassment.

Bharati was allegedly tortured for dowry after her marriage two years ago. Though the parents of Bharati had fulfilled the demand for dowry, Sushil and his parents allegedly tortured her for more dowry.

Murder

Suspecting it to be a murder, they sought a through investigation of the case. They threatened to intensify their agitation if action was not taken against those responsible for the death of Bharati.

They staged a demonstration and rasta roko at Rani Chennamma Circle for some time.

They submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police in support of their demands.
