Bangalore: A human trafficking racket was busted by the Upparpet police, who raided a lodge in their limits on Monday night, arrested a man and rescued two girls.

The police raided Shrinidhi Lodge in R.K. Puram and arrested Manoj alias Manja of Laggere, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Division) B. Shivakumar said.

The accused, who brought girls from West Bengal and other States on the pretext of helping them get jobs, sold them to those running prostitution rackets.

Manager of the lodge Bheemarao, and his two accomplices Prakash alias Kumar and Shrinivas escaped, Mr. Shivakumar said.

Recovered

The Upparpet police arrested an autorickshaw driver, who allegedly robbed a Philippines national and recovered Rs. 2.5 lakh worth jewellery and electronic goods from him.

The police said accused Sajjad Ahmad (24) of Padarayanapura allegedly fled with Makeme Mariah Ido’s valuables on August 26. The police said that Ms. Ido loaded her baggage in Sajjad’s vehicle and asked him to follow her autorikshaw to reach a lodge in Balepet.

However, he escaped with her baggage.

Toddler run over

A one-and-a-half-year-old toddler, Sriram, died on the spot after being run over by a speeding goods carrier in front of his house near Thindlu on Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred on Nanjappa Totada Road under Hebbal traffic police station limits. Sriram’s father Kumar, a watchman, has filed a case in this regard.

Following the accident, the public gathered at the spot and blocked the road for a while and threw stones at the vehicle. According to the police, the victim was playing in front of his house and his parents were watching him. However, the boy suddenly moved to the middle of the road and the vehicle knocked him down.
