People have equal role in maintaining peace

In response to the Public Eye on Crime and the City published on June 17, Anupama A.S writes:

People should know that police alone are not responsible to maintain law and order but people have to take responsibility for it. During many crimes, people will be mute spectators and do not take steps to prevent it and wait for the police to come.

Local residents should ensure that the area has adequate streetlights. This will prevent crime to an extent. Everyone in our country should take responsibility to maintain the law and order.

S.P. Sundaram writes: It is a tragedy that unwary citizens, including children, are washed away in drains because manholes covers are left open. The authorities should ensure that when manhole covers are removed, they are not replaced by perforated lids so that people can walk over them safely.
