Padmavati gets Mansur Samman

HUBLI: The prestigious Mallikarjun Mansur Samman for 2009 was conferred on Hindustani vocalist Padmavati Shaligram Gokhale at her residence in Mumbai on Sunday.

Instituted by Dr. Mallikarjun Mansur National Memorial Trust, Dharwad, the national award comprises a citation, a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh, a memento and a shawl.

The award was conferred on Ms. Gokhale by B.D. Hiregoudar, Assistant Director of Kannada and Cultural Department and Member Secretary of the trust.

Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Darpan Jain, who is the chairman of the Dr. Mallikarjun Mansur National Memorial Trust, had announced that members of the committee would confer the “samman” on her at her residence in Mumbai.
