Otology workshop begins

Belgaum: H. Vijayendra, well-known otologist from Bangalore, demonstrated various surgical procedures such as facial nerve decompression and stapedectomy on the inaugural day of the two-day workshop on “Surgical Otology” and live international otology network (LION), a video conference, organised by the Department of ENT at J.N. Medical College at KLES Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital here on Tuesday.

The workshop is being organised in association with Causse Ear clinic, France.

Dr. Vijayendra also conducted cadaveric temporal bone dissection.

Live surgeries of the middle and inner ear conducted by otologists across the world, Beziers in France, Hannover in Germany, Padova in Italy, Sao Paulo in Brazil, Utrecht in the Netherlands and Barcelona in Spain were telecast for medical faculty, professionals and students.

Belgaum is the only place in India connected to the LION network. The workshop was formally inaugurated by KLE University Registrar P.F. Kotur.

J.N. Medical College Principal V.D. Patil and office-bearers of the organising committee were present. Eighty delegates from various parts of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra are participating in the workshop.
