NITK team wins regional round

Manipal: The 15th regional round of the Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2010 was held at the MIT Library Auditorium here on Wednesday.

In a gruelling but exciting battle of the minds, Varun Balan Nair and Sharan Basavaraj from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal emerged as the winners.

Quizmaster Giri Balasubramaniam presented the winners with a cash prize of Rs. 75,000 along with other prizes. The winning team will now compete with regional winners from 19 other cities across India, at the national finals scheduled to be held in Mumbai in early April.

The runners-up, Rajat Shetty and Kenneth D'Souza, from the NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 35,000.

The 2010 edition of the quiz has expanded to 20 cities this year, up from 16 cities last year. The four new cities are Nagpur, Ranchi, Manipal and Guwahati.

This year, the quiz unveiled a challenging, new format based on Twenty20 cricket.

The quiz consisted of five rounds which tested the participants' logical and reasoning abilities as well as their speed of thought.
