Bidar: There was utter chaos on some roads in Bidar on Sunday. Vehicular movement was affected on the Udgir Main Road and the B.V.B. College Road as a large number of people from across the district came to the B.V.B. College Grounds where mass marriage ceremony was organised by Sri Sai Seva Prathishthan, Pune.

People started assembling at the venue from afternoon itself though the function was in the evening.

There was a traffic jam at the Mahaveer Chowk and the Basaveshwara Circle and it took three hours for the traffic to clear.

The members of the prathishthan, led by its president Subhash Thippanna Nelge, took out a procession with the accompaniment of drumbeating. The procession started from the Nehru Stadium and passed through Ambedkar Circle, Mahaveer Circle, Basaveshwar Circle and Bhoomgoondeshwara Circle before reaching B.V.B. College Grounds where a huge pandal was erected to hold the marriage ceremony. A large number of people in buses, trucks and cars were a part of the procession.

As there were scores of vehicles proceeding towards the B.V.B. College Grounds, there was traffic jam and people who were not part of the procession were stranded for hours at the two circles on the Udgir Main Road.

Ramesh Biradar, a two-wheeler rider, said he was caught in the traffic jam on Sunday. As there is no other way he can reach the Gandhi Ganj area of Bidar city, he said he had to wait for the traffic to clear.

Police had a tough task managing the movement of vehicles.
