Marine research and higher education

India has a long coastline of about 8000 kms, crowned with ecosystems such as marine, coastal, estuarine etc., and the unique productive habitats like coral reefs, seagrassess and mangroves etc. Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli approved Suganthi Devadsaon Marine Research Institute (SDMRI), Tuticorin ( >www.sdmri.org) as its Satellite Centre to run the M.Sc. Course in “Marine Science and Ocean Management” and three M.Phil courses in Marine Microbiology, Coastal Aquaculture and Marine Science & Ocean Management. SDMRI is recognized by University Grants Commission and is involved in multi disciplinary research activities related to the said academic programmes.
