HUBLI: P. Manivannan, Commissioner of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, has been transferred to Uttar Kannada district as Deputy Commissioner with immediate effect.

According to official sources, Mr. Manivannan received his transfer order on Friday night in which he was asked to take charge as the Deputy Commissioner of Uttar Kannada district on Saturday.

The Ministers in the district opposed his transfer with Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar openly stating that he was in favour continuing Mr. Manivannan in the same post, “as the twin cities still required his services”.

On Saturday, Mr. Shettar again reiterated his stand on Mr. Manivannan’s transfer and said he would take up the issue with the Chief Minister and convince him to send Mr. Manivannan back to Hubli. He said he had written a letter to the Chief Secretary requesting him to retain Mr. Manivannan as the Commissioner of HDMC at least for another six months.

Meanwhile, members of Rashtriya Hindu Sena took out a protest march in Hubli on Saturday against Mr. Manivannan’s transfer. Starting from Moorusavir Math, they marched to the office of the Hubli Tahsildar to submit a memorandum to the State Government to withdraw the transfer order.
