His complaint to the Congress leader led to the incident

SHIMOGA: The difference of opinion over fertilizer stock at Anjanapur in Shikaripur taluk led to roughing up of a member of the local farmers’ cooperative service society on Sunday by a group of people.

The incident took place immediately after the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, left the village after consoling the kin of Narayanaswamy, who committed suicide a few days ago.

What seemed to have provoked the group to attack Gajendra was his complaint to Mr. Kharge that there was an acute shortage of fertilizers in the village and this had reportedly forced the farmer to commit suicide.

The group allegedly attacked him after Mr. Kharge left the village.

He was chased and beaten up. He, however, forced into a house and locked himself from inside.

Later, the incident was brought to the notice of Mr. Kharge, who asked the police to look into it.
