Bijapur: Fed up with “false” assurances that the Mulwad lift irrigation project would be completed soon and water provided, residents of Malgan village in Basavan Bagewadi taluk boycotted polling on Thursday. The residents complained that elected representatives had not taken any step to fulfil their demands.. Senior citizen and retired teacher S.S. Garsangi, who led the move to boycott the elections, told The Hindu that even two decades after the foundation stone was laid for the project, the village had not received water.

The elected representatives had also failed to include the village under the tank-filling project launched by the State Government, he said. Leaders of all political parties made a futile attempt to convince the voters to take part in the polling. The officers deputed in two polling booths in the village with 1,005 and 1,204 voters, respectively, sat idle for the whole day.
