BIDAR: A majority of the residents of Sultanpur village in Bidar taluk boycotted the Lok Sabha elections and the Bidar Assembly by-elections on Thursday, demanding that the authorities concerned provide adequate drinking water in the village.

The residents wanted Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta to visit the spot and take steps to ease the water shortage. The residents criticised the elected representatives for giving “false” promises that Sultanpur would be turned into another Singapore. There are 825 voters in Sultanpur.

Chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat Umesh Kusgal and officials went there and launched work to drill a borewell and urged the residents to vote. Thereafter, some residents voted.
