Low-key celebrations mark Basava Jayanti

HUBLI: Programmes to mark Basava Jayanti were held in some of the government offices in Dharwad district on Thursday.

However, the celebrations were without any fanfare in view of the model code of conduct for the Assembly elections being in force.

Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar paid floral tributes at the portrait of the 12th century social reformer Basaveshwara after a puja on his office premises in Dharwad.

Chief Executive Officer of Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Darpan Jain, headquarters assistant to the Deputy Commissioner Mohan Sasanur and Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture K.H. Chennur were present.

Superintending Engineer Narayana garlanded the equestrian statue of Basaveshwara situated near Kala Bhavan, as part of a programme organised by the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation in Dharwad. In Hubli, Commissioner of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Ajay Nagabhushan garlanded the statues of Basaveshwara near Basava Vana and at Keshwapur Circle.
