Looking Ahead: a career counselling session

In 2004, The Hindu Education Plus upgraded its educational contribution to the student community by organising a pre-counselling guidance session for those who had appeared for the Common Entrance Test. Enthused by the response, we extended it to the district centres two years later. With the once chaotic admission process getting streamlined over the years, the focus of our pre-counselling sessions has also changed. Despite the information overload online, students continue to look for inspirational interactions with specialists in various fields.

This year we are offering a new and improved palette at our pre-admission counselling session.

“Looking Ahead: a career counselling session” will be held in Bangalore (May 23), Mysore (May 24), Udupi (May 26), Hubli (May 28) and Gulbarga (May 29). Expert lectures and a question-answer session will take students through the many career options ahead of them. In addition, students will take home a free copy of “Looking Ahead”, a well-researched publication that presents a wide range of expert articles charting trends, providing information and even helping you plan the next step after graduation.

At the Bangalore programme, the keynote address will be delivered by eminent scientist and Linus Pauling Research Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research C.N.R. Rao on the excitement of science as a profession. Harish Bijoor, brand expert and CEO of Harish Bijoor Consults Inc., will give an overview of the job market for the next few years. Madan Padaki, CEO and co-founder of MeritTrac, will speak about the relevance of soft-skills from the industry perspective. Senior executives of the Karnataka Examinations Authority and COMED-K will clear doubts about the admission process, and Bindu Chopra, an educational consultant from The Chopras, will speak about foreign education and funding.

In Mysore, the keynote address will be delivered by the head of the Chemistry Department at the National Institute of Engineering, Pushpalatha. Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University H.S. Ballal and K.S. Aithal, head of the Physics Department of the Manipal Institute of Technology will lead the lecture series in Udupi.

M.I Savadatti, former Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University, and B.G. Mulimani, Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University, will deliver the keynote address in Hubli and Gulbarga respectively. The keynote address will be followed by lectures by experts on soft-skills, foreign education, the CET and COMED-K admission process and “Looking Ahead” at all the centres. While the session begins at 4 p.m. in Bangalore, it will commence at 10 a.m. at all other venues.
