Live demonstration to be held for e-filing and e-payment

The Commercial Taxes Department has arranged a live demonstration on e-filing and e-payment from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kuvempu Rang Mandir here on Thursday for the benefit of commercial taxpayers, tax consultants, chartered accountants and TDS officials of Shimoga city and Shimoga, Bhadravati, Tirthahalli, Sagar and Tarikere taluks.

Joint Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Shimoga Division) O. Kasturappa told presspersons here on Wednesday, that the Additional Commissioner (Vigilance) Commercial Taxes, J. Ramlinge Gowda, and Assistant Commissioner (e-filing) system B.N. Biradar would conduct the demonstration and clear doubts about e-filing and e-payment of commercial taxes.

He said with the introduction of e-filing and e-payment under the Value Added Tax Act 2003, filing of the statements and payment of taxes had become quite convenient for traders and merchants as they could file them in two separate forms at their convenience.

He said that nearly 25 per cent of traders and merchants had been filing their statements and paying their taxes through the hassle-free wide-area network.

Mr. Kasturappa said the merchants and traders who used the internet for filing their statements and paying taxes would be given separate usernames and passwords.

He said that any business with more than Rs. 5 lakh annual turnover came under the tax net of the department and it would have to be registered with it compulsorily. He said that the new registration of taxpayers would be made in the first quarter of every financial year.

He said that Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) had been issued to 5,876 dealers in Shimoga city, Shimoga taluk and Tirthahalli taluk providing them with separate usernames and passwords.
