Leaders praise Chindodi Leela

DAVANGERE: Davangere MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa said that theatre still remained a relevant medium of communication.

Mr. Shivashankarappa was inaugurating the Chindodi Leela Kalakshetra here on Saturday.

The veteran Congress leader said with the advent of television, it was feared that theatre would face extinction. But theatre faced a slum and recovered.

In fact, until a few years ago, the stage was used to convey various messages of public interest by the Government.

Mr. Shivashankarappa commended the contributions made by Ms. Leela.

Agriculture and Davangere district in-charge Minister S.A. Ravindranath said Ms. Leela was an outstanding stage artist.

A.H. Shivayogiswamy, Chief Whip in Legislative Council, underlined the contributions of Ms. Leela.

G.V. Rajaram, chairman of the Karnataka Nataka Academy, said the Kalakshetra should be used to train budding talent. Mukyamanthri Chandru, chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, and actor Umashri spoke.

Puttaraj Gavai, Go. Ru. Chennabasappa, Enagi Balappa and Sarojamma Duttaragi were honoured.

Sri Shivamurthy Murugarajendra Swamiji of Brihanmath spoke.
