HASSAN: BJP State unit general secretary and MLC Shoba Karandlaje has charged that the UPA government at the Centre as well as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had hurt the feelings of Hindus by questioning the existence of Rama.

Ms. Karandlaje wanted Mr. Karunanidhi and the UPA government to seek a public apology.

According to her there was a conspiracy in the country to insult the majority. Now was the time for Hindus to get united, she said.

Ms. Karandlaje said that the question over the existence of Rama was raised to please UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. She said the incident in which a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus was set on fire had nothing to do with the BJP. District BJP president Navile Annappa and secretary Kamal Kumar were present.
