Karnataka Cabinet reshuffle on cards

BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa is expected to reshuffle his nearly one-year-old Ministry either in the first or second week of June. Contrary to earlier indications that the Chief Minister might undertake a major revamp, it now appears he will only make a minor reshuffle in his 34-member Ministry.

A senior BJP functionary told The Hindu that the Chief Minister is likely to bring in former Minister V.Somanna, who recently quit the Congress to join the BJP, into the Ministry.

However, as the Ministry has reached its maximum strength of 34 members, Mr.Yeddyurappa is expected to drop a member from the Ministry to accommodate Mr.Somanna who was reportedly promised a Cabinet berth in return for his defection.

This has set off speculation on who will be dropped.

The name of Housing and Muzrai Minister Krishnaiah Shetty, who is Mr.Yeddyurappa’s close aide and an MLA from Malur, is doing the rounds. Mr.Somanna, who quit his Assembly membership won on Congress ticket from Govindarajanagar constituency in Bangalore, is expected to be made an MLC.
