They want a resurvey of damaged houses in Bijapur district as they are not happy with present list

Bijapur: The members of the district unit of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Monday urging him to fulfil several of their demands such as the release of Rs. 1 lakh for completely damaged houses in the recent floods.

The members demanded that a resurvey of damaged houses be conducted in the district as the present list of beneficiaries was not prepared properly.

The daily wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGREGA) should be increased to Rs. 150 and the payments should be made every week, they added. They also wanted the Government to stem the increase in prices of essential commodities and the restarting of crushing of sugarcane. Their other demands include farm loan waiver, proper supply of power to irrigation pumpsets and the release of funds for completion of pending irrigation projects in the district. The protesters petitioned Deputy Commissioner R. Shantraju.
