KPCL, L&T sign pact for project in Chhattisgarh

Bangalore: Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Wednesday signed a joint venture agreement for development of a 1,600 MW coal-based super critical thermal power project at Godhna in Chhattisgarh.

KPCL Managing Director S.M. Jaamdar and L&T Chairman and Managing Director A.M. Naik signed the agreement in the presence of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.

KPCL and L&T will invest in the ratio of 50:50 to implement the Rs. 10,000-crore project, and the work on it is expected to be completed in three years.

KPCL and Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board had signed the MoU for the project on September 8, 2008 in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, for 1,200 MW. Now, the capacity of the project has been enhanced from to 1,600 MW.

The Chhattisgarh Government has allotted 1,260 acres in four villages for the project.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said the land acquisition process was on and L&T had given an assurance of completing the project in three years.

The Chhattisgarh Government has decided to allocate an annual requirement of 1.84 tmcft of water to be drawn from the Mahanadi to the project.
