K.R. Prahlad dead

BANGALORE: K.R. Prahlad, 54, a senior officer in the Indian Information Service serving as the Chief of the News Section in Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra, died here on Saturday after complications from a heart bypass surgery. He is survived by his wife Gauri, and children Deepak and Pallavi.

Mr. Prahlad had worked in the All India Radio in Dharwad, Bangalore and New Delhi. Starting as a programme officer in Dharwad, he rose to become a news editor. His reportage of the Mahamastakabhisheka at Shravanabelagola in Hassan district and his cricket commentary received much acclaim. Mr. Prahlad served in different capacities in the Field Publicity Directorate, Yojana magazine, DAVP and Broadcasting divisions. He had served as president of the Bangalore Reporters Guild. An avid theatre buff, Mr. Prahlad had acted in several dramas.

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy called on the bereaved family of Mr. Prahlad and offered his condolences to the family. The Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, the former Union Minister H.N. Ananth Kumar, Science and Technology Minister Ramachandra Gowda, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Mallikarjuna Kharge, All India Radio Director S.S. Hiremath, and Director (News) M. Nagendraswamy condoled his death. The Press Club of Bangalore has condoled his death.
