Jeweller's arrest: IGP promises action

MANGALORE: The police authorities here have promised to take action in the case relating to the alleged illegal detention of Jagadish M. Shet, a jeweller from Sagar in Shimoga district, by the District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) personnel.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB) B.D. D'Souza has been asked to inquire into the incident and submit a report in this regard. H.N. Sathyanarayana Rao, Inspector-General of Police (Western Range), told The Hindu here on Saturday that he was yet to receive the inquiry report from Mr. D'Souza. Stating that the office-bearers of Karnataka State Gold-Silver Workers' Federation had apprised him of the matter, Mr. Rao said the federation should repose faith in the police to view the case impartially.


Earlier, addressing presspersons here, general secretary of the federation A.R.S. Babu demanded that the DCIB Police Inspector T.B. Rajanna be placed under suspension immediately.
