Importance of eye donation highlighted

SHIMOGA: President of the Shimoga District Cooperative Central Bank R.M. Manjunath Gowda has emphasised the need for voluntary organisations to come forward to offer better healthcare to the poor and needy.

He was inaugurating a free eye check-up and surgery camp at the Mcgann Hospital, organised jointly by the Kodachadri Graminabhivruddhi Trust, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Graminabhivruddhi Samsthe and Mahatma Gandhi Arunodaya Graminabhivruddhi Trust, here on Saturday.He described eye donation as sacred and asked people to register their names for donating eyes. It was necessary for social organisations to come forward to wage a war against blindness among the poor as it was not possible for government to do it alone.

Journalist S. Chandrakanth asked voluntary organisations to associate themselves with social welfare activities too in addition to their participation in the fight for the public cause.

Government hospitals need to equip themselves with modern facilities so that they could offer better service to the poor and needy , he said. President of the samsthe M. Gurmurthy presided over the function.
