HUBLI: People from all walks of life gathered at Indira Glass House here on Tuesday to pay their last respect to “Gangajji” (Gangubai Hangal), the doyenne of Hindustani classical music.

While many of the visitors were from the fields of art, music and literature, there were some from other walks of life too.

Elected representatives also made an appearance with wreaths to place on the mortal remains of ‘Gangajji’ covered by the tricolour.

Gangubai’s renditions played in the background. Schoolchildren also came in good numbers.

Condolence meetings

Meanwhile, condolence meetings were held in several schools and colleges in the twin cities, including Oxford College, IBMR and others. Silence was observed as a mark of respect.

The members of Hubli Bar Association refrained from attending court proceedings on Tuesday. Condolence meetings were held by Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation, Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Karnataka State Open University, Mysore. and others.
