Housing project for Army personnel to be launched today

Work on the biggest housing project for the serving and the retired Army personnel undertaken by the Army Welfare Housing Organisation (AWHO) will begin on Thursday when Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and the Chief of Army Staff General V.K. Singh will lay the foundation stone.

As many as 1,524 flats will be constructed at the AWHO site in Kannamangala off Hoskote Road at a cost of Rs. 600 crore. According to a press release, the AWHO will be constructing two, three and four-bedroom flats in the complex comprising of seven blocks. Penthouses will be coming up at the 13 and 14 {+t} {+h} floors. All the blocks will be connected by wide roads and there will be covered parking at each of the blocks, the release said.

The project is likely to be completed by 2012. Apart from the servicing and retired Army personnel, the flats will be allotted to war widows, the release said.

1,524 flats will be constructed at Kannamangala at a cost of Rs. 600 cr.
