Gram sabhas to be roped in to fight regional plan

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: Goa Bachav Abhiyan (GBA) has resolved to get all the gram sabhas in the State to pass resolutions by the coming Republic Day seeking scrapping of the plan.

At a largely attended public rally held at Margao in south Goa on Tuesday, the GBA leaders also declared that in the next phase of agitation all MLAs will be asked to commit in writing against the controversial plan.

The meeting was held to announce the next course of action as the deadline given by the agitators to the State Government to scrap the plan expired on Monday.

The GBA was not satisfied with the decision of the Congress Legislature Party, on Monday, to keep the changes made in the regional plan in abeyance, to review the plan and put the 10-year document for public scrutiny for 60 days.

Public meeting

It therefore decided to go ahead with its proposed public meeting.

Convener of the GBA Oscar Rebello said, "GBA fuses to fall prey to the chronic smoke-screens of the CLP," and added, "the decision of the CLP to review the plan and put it up for so-called public scrutiny smells of delaying tactics until the Assembly elections".
