Four more arrested in posters case

Bijapur: The district police have arrested four more persons allegedly involved in putting up provocative posters at various places in Bijapur on Friday night.

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Superintendent of Police Arun Chakravarthy said those arrested were Shane-e-Karim, a student of Al-Ameen Medical College; Yasin Mulla from Muddebihal; Abdul Khader from Talikot; and Yaqub Mashalkar from Indi taluk.

He said Karim, who is suspected to be an activist of the banned Students’ Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), had masterminded the plan of putting up provocative posters in Bijapur, Hubli, Belgaum and Gadag districts and had ordered the printing of 10,000 copies of such posters through an agent in Belgaum.

Mr. Chakravarthy said the Belgaum police had already arrested the printing press owner and were searching for the other accused in Hubli, Belgaum and Gadag districts. With these arrests, the number of those accused in the incident has reached 10.
