Four drown in Netravati

MANGALORE: Four youths, Soumya (21), Shruthi (16), Naveen (13) and Sandesh (17), drowned in Netravati river in Manjalapady area of Sajpa Munoor village in Bantwal taluk on Sunday evening after the authorities of the AMR power project released water into the river without warning. A case has been registered.

They had come to Manjalapady to attend their cousin’s birthday party. Three more cousins who had accompanied the deceased were rescued by the elders in the family.

District in-charge Minister J. Krishna Palemar, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Congress MLA B. Ramanath Rai visited the family to express their condolences. Mr. Palemar blamed AMR Power Ltd. for the tragedy. and said that they did not take necessary precautionary steps before releasing water.

InspectoriGeneral of Police (Western Range) Gopal B. Hosur said that the police would explore options to slap cases against those responsible.
