Bangalore: The names of Sri Sri Ravishankar of the Art of Living, Balagangadhranatha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Math, environmentalist Yellappa Reddy, academic Shadakshara Swamy and chairperson of State Human Rights Commission S.R. Nayak figure in the preliminary list of honorary doctorate approved by Bangalore University Syndicate on Tuesday.

The university will now send the preliminary list to the Chancellor for approval. “These five persons were chosen for their contributions to society in their respective fields. The names need to be first approved by the Chancellor and Governor Rameshwar Thakur,” Sanjay Vir Singh, Registrar, said.

A few persons staged a protest in front of the Syndicate hall objecting to the participation of K.R. Venugopal of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering. Since the High Court had directed the university to strip him of his professorship, he could not attend the meeting, they said.
