CHAMARAJANAGAR: The District and Session Judge, A.C. Vidhyadhar, imposed a penalty of Rs. 9,000 and one and a half year imprisonment each to farmers Erashetty of Shivapura in Gundlepet taluk and Chinnaswamy of Nallur village in Chamarajanagar taluk for the death of elephants by illegal electrocution in 2001 and 2002 respectively.
Both farmers had connected a power line illegally to their farms to protect their standing crops and the elephants had entered their farms and got electrocuted.
