Extend train to Karwar: MPs

D.V. Sadananda Gowda, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Ananth Kumar Hegde, MPs from the coastal region, have urged the Railway Ministry to extend the Yeshwanthpur-Mangalore Express train to Karwar and the tri-weekly Mumbai-Karwar Superfast Express train to Mangalore.

In a letter to Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa, copies of which were released at Mr. Sadananda Gowda's office here on Thursday, the three MPs have stated that the Bangalore-Hassan-Mangalore railway line was one of the most profitable routes.A large number of people commuted by this train and a huge quantity of commercial goods was being transported to the Mangalore port for shipping. But the Bangalore-Mangalore night train had been extended up to Kannur in Kerala, instead of Karwar via Udupi and Kundapur.

The extension of this train to Karawar had been approved at a meeting held in January 2009 at Bangalore. But nothing had happened so far.
