GULBARGA: Explosive material, including gelatin sticks and ammonium nitrate, illegally stored in a godown on Taj Sultanpur-Kalhangarga Road on the outskirts of the city were seized, on Friday night.

The police seized 46 gelatin sticks and 145 bags of ammonium nitrate worth over Rs.6.5 lakh, and three pick-up vans.

One person has been arrested and the police are on the look-out for three others. The police gave the name of the arrested as Nandalal Shankarlal Irani, who hails from Bilwar in Rajasthan. They are on the lookout for Dinish Narayan Ladda, Eshwar and Omprakash.

Although Irani was in possession of a licence to store the explosives, it was for storing it in Kadaganchi in Aland taluk.

No permission had been given to store the explosive material in the godown. The material was also in excess of the amount permitted.

Irani and two of his accomplices had stored the explosive material in the godown which is next to a detergent unit set up by Ladda.

The police suspect that the godown belonges to Ladda. Questioning by the police has not yet revealed the purpose for which Irani had stored the explosives. It is not clear whether the explosives were meant for any subversive activities.

The police said that more light would be shed on the matter after the three persons were arrested.
