Resignation of Acharya sought

Rajnath Singh’s statement draws criticism

Bangalore: KPCC president R.V. Deshpande and working president D.K. Shivakumar on Wednesday demanded that the 13 activists of the Sangh Parivar in the Anti-Terrorist Campaign Committee be dropped and directed the party cadre not to participate in the campaign till it was done.

Speaking to presspersons here, they said that active members of the RSS, Bajrang Dal and ABVP had been included in the committee to implement the Sangh Parivar agenda.

The leaders warned that the party would launch a movement against communalisation of the anti-terrorist campaign using the name of Swami Vivekananda and Subhas Chandra Bose, who were known for their secular credentials.

They said that the Government would be held responsible if there was any law and order situation because of their protest.

A delegation, led by Mr. Deshpande, met Governor Rameshwar Thakur and presented a memorandum to him.

It sought the resignation of Home Minister V.S. Acharya for the failure to reign in communal elements.

Mr. Deshpande termed as irresponsible Dr. Acharya’s statement that pubs should have their own security. The leaders urged the Governor to advise Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to drop Dr. Acharya, if he did not resign.

They also sought proscription of Sri Rama Sene and Bajrang Dal in the State.

On BJP president Rajnath Singh’s accusation that it was the Congress that was behind the pub attack, Mr. Deshpande remarked that a man of Mr. Singh’s stature should not have stooped to that level.

Meanwhile, former Congress legislators such as Umashree, Jalaja Naik and Bimba Raikar, led by State unit president Rani Satish, staged a dharna demanding dismissal of the Yeddyurappa Government.

Ms. Satish said that activists of Sri Rama Sene had behaved like members of the Ravana Sene against women in Mangalore.

All-India Janawadi Mahila Sanghatane vice-president K.S. Vimala addressed the gathering.
