Dowry demand lands man, father in jail

Bangalore: The Indiranagar police arrested a call centre employee and his father, Keshav (25) and Rajagopal (48), residents of Anepalya, on charges of cheating the former’s fiancée and her family and demanding dowry.


The girl’s father, Munikrishna, a farmer, had fixed her marriage with Keshav and the ceremony was to have been held on February 1 and 2.

The police said that Keshav demanded a house site and Rs. 2 lakh in cash.

On Tuesday, Mr. Munikrishna filed a complaint with the police.

Both father and son were arrested and produced in court which remanded them in judicial custody, the police said.


A 30-year-old garment factory employee lost his gold chain in a classic honey trap in front of the State Central Library in Cubbon Park on Tuesday night, according to the police.

The police said that the victim was lured by a call girl and was robbed by her accomplices at Cubbon Park near the library.

The woman was in a car and the victim sat next to her, only to be robbed by the two men at knifepoint, the Wilson Garden police said.


Thieves got away with valuables estimated at Rs. 1.25 lakh from a house on the eighth main of Kuvempu Nagar, near Doddakallasandra on Tuesday afternoon, the police said.

S. Subramanyam, a manager of ING Vysya Bank on Mahatma Gandhi Road, said that the thieves gained entry by breaking open the door.

His son slept right through the crime, the Subramanayapura police said.


The Malleswaram station police have arrested a youth in connection with a hoax bomb call made to the city police control room on January 19, 2009.

Rajesh N. Kumar (19), a resident of 7th cross of Lakshminarayanapura, allegedly made the call from a public booth on 2nd main of Vyalikaval near Bhashyam Circle said that a bomb had been planted on the 11th cross of Malleswaram.


A school dropout, he told the police that he made the call just to have some fun.
