Dharwad vocalist to sing for 24 hours

HUBLI: Prasanna M. Gudi, vocalist and son of Pandit Madhav Gudi, will attempt to sing for 24 hours in an effort to create a new record, on Sunday.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Anupama Mangalawede, office-bearer of the Kirana Sangeet Academy, Dharwad, said renowned vocalist Gangubai Hangal would inaugurate the programme at 8 a.m.

15-minute break

Mr. Prasanna would start singing from 9 a.m. and take a 15-minute break after singing for three hours continuously, she said.

Ms. Anupama said so far Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia had played the flute for 14 hours, while Pandit Madhav Gudi had sung for 14 hours and Pandit Bhimsen Joshi for 18 hours. Prasanna said he had practised for several days for this event and expressed confidence that he could do it.


He said apart from classical numbers, he would sing Marathi ‘abhangs’ and ‘daasavani’ during his effort.

Ms. Anupama said the Academy had invited Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for the concluding ceremony of the programme, subject to confirmation.

She also said renowned musician Chandrashekhar Puranikmath would be felicitated on the occasion.
