Raichur: Members of the Siddartha Seva Samiti staged a dharna here on Monday in protest against the inaction of the Raichur district administration in checking the sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in black market.

They sought action to solve the shortage in supply of LPG in the district.

A group of activists, led by M. Mareppa, president of the samiti, who launched dharna in a tent put up in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, has decided to continue the dharna till the district administration initiated action to solve the problems faced by domestic LPG consumers in the district.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, they said that the consumers in the district have been facing acute shortage of domestic LPG for the past one year. However, the district administration has failed to solve their problems.

They alleged that some dealers of Indane and Hindustan Petroleum companies in Raichur city were indulging in selling domestic LPG cylinders in the black market. They unauthorisedly sold domestic LPG cylinders to hotels, bakeries, marriage halls, vehicle users and autorickshaws at a higher price, the members said.

This has created an artificial shortage of domestic LPG in Raichur city.
